Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the improvement of the water supply system in Gjilan, Kamenica and Viti municipalities

The Regional Water Company “Hidromorava” – Gjilan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure, in  the municipalities of Gjilan, Kamenica, and Viti, recently organized a public debate regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report. This meeting focused on the planned improvements to the water supply system that serves these municipalities, aiming to address both environmental and community concerns.

Key Objectives

The primary goal of the debate was to inform and engage the public regarding the upcoming water infrastructure projects. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize and expand water supply services in the region of Kamenica, Gjilan and Viti, addressing long-standing issues with water distribution and water quality. The project, spearheaded by FLOWS, involves significant upgrades to existing infrastructure, ensuring a sustainable water supply for the citizens of Gjilan, Kamenica, and Viti.

Public Involvement

A key aspect of the debate was to foster transparency and ensure that citizens are informed about the potential environmental impacts of the project. It was emphasized during the debate, about the importance of community participation, encouraging stakeholders to voice their concerns and opinions regarding the proposed developments. For this reason, as part of the FLOWS website, a new Citizen Engagement Platform has been launched, providing an innovative and accessible way for the community to voice their concerns, engage in discussions, and participate in decision-making processes.
