FLOWS team inspected the installation of hydrometric hydrological equipment

FLOWS PMT conducted a visit and inspection of the ongoing works at the sites where the bases are being prepared for the installation of hydrometric (hydrological) measuring devices. These site visits also encompassed a comprehensive assessment of the renovation efforts being undertaken at the hydrometric stations. The project, implemented by AGS, aims to enhance the Hidrolometrological Institute of Kosova’s capacity to measure crucial water-related parameters, including water depth, flow, width, and rainfall-induced flows.

The commitment to installing state-of-the-art devices for measurement of hydrologic parameters for rivers was apparent. The measuring devices to be installed at these stations are equipped to provide precise data on flow rates and cross-sectional river profiles, thereby enhancing the ability to monitor rivers (flow rates, etc.) effectively. This technological upgrade is essential for maintaining accurate and up-to-date information for water management and flood forecasting.

Moreover, it was noteworthy that the project also encompasses the renovation of existing hydrometric stations. This revitalization effort includes refurbishing infrastructure, upgrading communication systems, and improving overall station functionality. These renovations are critical to ensuring the longevity and sustainability of these stations, allowing them to continue serving their vital role in hydrological data collection.

The importance of measuring flows, especially during rainfall events is crucial. The capacity to accurately gauge and analyze flow rates during rainfall is important for flood prediction and mitigation.

As the project is in its construction phase, needs to be reiterated that, the enhancing our capabilities for measurement and collection of hydrological data is commendable, and it is anticipated that this project will significantly contribute to improved river management and prediction of floods in the region.
