Within the framework of the Water Stewardship Grant Program (WSGP), implemented by FLOWS, we present another success story that demonstrates the tangible impact of small grants on sustainable water management and the development of modern agriculture in Kosovo.
Bio Nuts A is a company dedicated to producing high-quality nuts while applying modern agricultural practices. Through support provided by the WSGP grant, the company has made significant investments aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply for its orchard and improving irrigation efficiency.
Key investments include the construction and expansion of a water-collection reservoir, lined with a specialized geomembrane, which collects rainwater, snowmelt, and well water. This system ensures a stable and continuous water supply for the orchard, even during periods of drought.
Innovative Technologies for Efficient Irrigation
As part of the project, Bio Nuts A has installed smart soil-moisture sensors and an automated irrigation system, enabling intelligent, balanced, and efficient water distribution for each tree. These technological solutions contribute to the rational use of water resources and the protection of water reserves.
The implementation of sustainable water management practices has directly reduced the effects of drought and increased the orchard’s resilience to climate change.
Thanks to these investments, orchard yields are expected to increase by 20–30%, while export capacity is strengthened and the company moves further toward organic (BIO) production. This growth contributes not only to the economic sustainability of the business but also to the development of the agricultural sector at both local and national levels.
The project also has a social dimension, through the organization of a seminar with the local community and farmers. During this activity, best practices in water management, environmental protection, and the use of modern agricultural technologies are shared.
